In addition to large programmes and projects, which are approved by the authorities in Denmark, the Danish Embassy has a Local Grant Authority with which smaller scale activities and projects can be supported.
The Local Grant Authority (LGA) provides a flexible, non-bureaucratic instrument for the Danish Embassy to provide grants to local Nepal organisations for specific projects that are in-line with the overall objectives of Danish assistance to Nepal.
The following organisations are eligible to apply for the LGA:
- Local non-profit civil society organisations (non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and community-based organisations (CBOs) who are registered with the Social Welfare Council and have been operating for at least three years. - Government and semi-governmental bodies. - Multilateral organisations (UN and development banks) who operate in Nepal.
- Individuals - Private companies - International non-governmental organisations (INGOs) - Danish NGOs operating in Nepal- Private companies may be eligible for assistance under Denmark's Business to Business or Innovative Partnerships programmes and are encouraged to investigate these options.
The current focus areas are:- Activities that protect or improve the lives of women. - Activities that protect or improve the lives of children and youth. - Activities that prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS or that provide assistance to those living with HIV/AIDS. - Activities that preserve or promote cross-cultural understanding and appreciation of cultural diversity in Nepal. In addition to the above, all activities under the LGA must be in-line with the objectives of Danish Development Policy and the Interim Strategy for Nepal 2009.
The amount of LGA award varies and is based upon activities outlined in the project proposal, the implementation period, and type of activity. In general, grants are provided for one to three years with a maximum grant of DKK 2,000,000 (approximately NRs 25,000,000). The specific amount will be finalized in consultation with the Responsible Officer at the Danish Embassy during the application process.
LGA applications are accepted throughout the year - there is no specific deadline. However, applicants are encouraged to apply three to four months before funds are needed.
1. Applicants must meet the guidelines described under the section 'Who can apply'.
2. The project must meet objectives outlines under the section 'What kinds of projects are eligible' and must be within budgetary guidelines specified under the section 'How much is provided'. 3. The application form must be completely filled out in English. The application form and all relevant documents should be submitted to the responsible officer at the Danish Embassy in hard copy (electronic applications are currently not being accepted). See the application form in the right side menu.A decision to provide funds under LGA is always based upon a thorough individual assessment of the organisation, application, project and work plan. In addition, LGA applications are reviewed by a panel of staff members at the Danish Embassy in coordination with the responsible officer.
The review period for applications varies depending on the time of year submitted and the number of applications currently under review. It is recommended that you submit your application at least three to four months prior to the time funding is needed. Every effort will be made by the Embassy to review the application in a timely manner.
